24/7 Emergency Care. Our patients are first.
Sudden face drooping, one-sided weakness, slurred speech, trouble understanding, vision changes, or a sudden severe headache can be warning signs of a stroke. This is not a wait-and-see situation. Call 911 immediately.
Call 911 right away if you notice:
If you can, note the time symptoms started. That detail can affect treatment decisions.
Even if symptoms improve, do not ignore them
A TIA is often called a “mini-stroke,” but it should not be treated like a minor problem. It can cause stroke-like symptoms for a short time and then improve—but it still needs same-day emergency evaluation.

I went in with chest pains and shortness of breath. I have insurance but it’s not in network. I live close by so I went to the nearest emergency room. I was greeted and made aware that I might have to pay self pay if the Dr deemed it not an emergency. After getting an ekg the Dr said it wasn’t an emergency and they proposed I pay over $1800 to be examined. The Dr said what do you have Medicaid, making an unfair assumption. I replied no I have Aetna insurance. I politely declined and had to go somewhere else. They were nice overall but why the outrageous charges!?Posted on Google Soumaya AlissaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing staff, doctors, and care. What a stroke is
A stroke happens when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked by a clot or when a blood vessel in the brain ruptures. In both cases, brain tissue is deprived of oxygen, and damage can begin within minutes. That is why early action matters so much.
What Post Oak ER can do for stroke symptoms
When someone arrives with possible stroke symptoms, the priority is rapid assessment and stabilization. At Post Oak ER, that may include an immediate exam, neurologic evaluation, vital signs, blood sugar check, on-site CT imaging, lab work, IV treatment, and cardiac evaluation as clinically appropriate. The goal is to quickly determine whether symptoms may be due to stroke, bleeding in the brain, or another serious emergency and move to the next step without delay.
Why timing matters
Stroke treatment is highly time-sensitive. For some eligible patients with ischemic stroke, clot-busting medicine may be considered within 4.5 hours of symptom onset. Some patients with large-vessel clots may also qualify for mechanical thrombectomy within up to 24 hours, depending on imaging and the clinical picture. Not every patient qualifies, and some advanced interventions are performed at hospital stroke centers, which is why emergency evaluation should happen immediately.
When higher-level hospital stroke care may be needed
Post Oak ER is a freestanding emergency room, not an inpatient hospital. If a patient needs admission or higher-level hospital stroke services, transfer to an appropriate hospital may be arranged. That is normal emergency care planning—not a reason to delay getting evaluated.
Stroke symptoms people wait too long to check
Not every stroke looks dramatic at first. Some people ignore early symptoms because they think it is fatigue, dizziness, a migraine, or low blood sugar. If a symptom is sudden, unusual, and especially one-sided, it needs emergency attention.
Common stroke risk factors
Some major stroke risk factors include high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, atrial fibrillation, obesity, inactivity, and prior stroke or TIA. While not every stroke is preventable, controlling these risk factors can lower the chance of a future event.
